World Rhino Day 2022 “Five Rhino Species Forever”

Yearly ,on the 22nd of September ,World Rhino day is observed to create awareness of the remaining rhino species and the hazards they are exposed to or bound to face. World Rhino Day was stated in 2010 by WWF – South Africa and later awareness was created first in 2011  to protect all the five species from extinction, since then it has been celebrated yearly all over the world.

Rhinos are in danger of extinction  due to climate change, interference with their natural habitat and also poaching. For instance ,there has been forest fires, deforestation and also poachers hunting for their horns and skin hence in danger of getting extinct. The remaining species of rhino is  the Black, Javan, Sumatran, Greater-one horned and White rhino.

22nd September 2022 World Rhino Day theme is ‘Five Rhino Species Forever’ and the goal is to create awareness of the threats rhinos are facing and do everything possible to protect them by avoiding human activities that will interfere with these creatures.

FEW RHINO FACTS

  • Black and white rhino are actually grey.
  • They are called bulls and cows.
  • Rhino horns are actually made of Keratin
  • Rhinos have poor vision, they can only see objects 98 feet away
  • They communicate through honks and sneezes
  • Major of all they are under threat.

 

Our message to the world is’ the only way to save our rhinos is to protect the environment they live in since we all mutually benefit in it‘.

At Heads and Hands Initiative, one of our six pillars is environmental conservation and the rhinos are good grazers where the feed on vegetation which helps on shaping the landscape.
